What will help your baby gain his birth weight back
− The Medical Consensus
THE GUIDANCE WE GET FROM RESEARCH
In 2022, we finally get the full picture around the debate : How often can we feed our newborn and young baby.
Between on demand feeding vs 3-hour schedule feeding what is the best.
Thanks to this study we have a better understanding on Why and when to choose one instead of another.
The answer from W.H.O
The World Health Organization, brought together a whole team of expert, they work with pediatricians, lactation consultants, health visitors, pediatric nurses, NICU nurses, parents, and all those carers around birth and babies and parenting.
They came into the consensus around whether we need or not to give the three-hour guideline to parents — deeply investigate if it was (really) helpful?
WHICH METHOD HELP BABY GAIN WEIGHT?
They did the research.
They tried, and they saw which one was more beneficial than the other to make baby gain weight.
And I will drop the link of all the information you have in here.
Here’s what the result was, basically:
They came to the conclusion that in the case of a baby being premature and/or less than 2.5 kilograms, they will need to get a stricter schedule of feeding — that rigid schedule being every three hours.
The consensus came to feed them every three hours, even if it means waking them up and interrupting their sleep.
For all the other babies — like "heavier" babies, babies that are born full-term — it's more beneficial for both the baby's weight and the parents to feed them on demand and not follow a rigid schedule.
